Charlotte Assarsson was born in Lund, Sweden, but grew up in different Swedish cities. At the age of 15 she moved to Stockholm and began her dance education at the Ballet Academy. This was followed by dance studies in New York for one year and in Dayton, Ohio for a second year.
At the age of 18, Charlotte received her first engagement as a dancer at the Gothenburg Opera Ballet, where she remained until 1980. In 1976 she took a leave of absence for a two years engagement at, first, the Royal Swedish Ballet and, then, the Cramer Ballet (closed down in 1986) in Stockholm.
In 1979 Charlotte was offered the role of Hodel in "Fiddler on the Roof" at the Swedish National Theater Center, and thus came into the musical world. Together with the dancer and choreographer Carina Jarlmark she formed in 1980 The Fairytale Theatre with the intention to produce new musicals for a children and youth audience. Pretty soon joined former principal dancer, artistic director and musical artist Conny Borg and together they all created the children's musical "The Goosemaid" and the rock musical "Passionella" which toured Sweden for two years.
Charlotte returned to New York in 1982 to study musical theater at HB-studios. Back in Stockholm the following year she was engaged to the set up of "Nine" at the Oscar's Theater and "Oklahoma" at the Swedish National Theater Center in which she made the role of Gertie.
In 1985 Charlotte took the initiative to form The Musical Theatre and as the first production she presented the children's musical "Little brother and Little sister". It's based on the Brothers Grimm's fairy tale with the same name and with original music by Elia Cmiral. In this original version Charlotte created all the five roles herself. The next production was the musical program "Song and Dance" for an adult audience, directed by Arne Tyrén, and it premiered in the spring of 1986. See Video.
Charlotte gave birth to her first child in 1987 together with her husband Armand Gutheim, and started an education as a teacher in ballet and children's dance at the College of Dance and Circus in Stockholm. As such, she has since been working at Danscompagniet, the Ballet Academy and Lasse Kühler's Dance school in Stockholm. In 1992 Charlotte also started The School of Musicals, a one-year post-secondary musical education, and ran it as its artistic director for a number of years.
In 1994 Charlotte gave birth to her second child and returned to the stage the following year, in time for the 10th anniversary of The Musical Theater. Along with Armand Gutheim she revised her "Little brother and Little sister", now for two artists, to be presented by both of them at Pero's Theater in Stockholm. The following years, they created and produced a number of musicals for children, families, young people and adults together which were performed both on tour around Sweden and in Stockholm in theaters such as the Vasa Theater, the Southern Theater and Pero´s Theater. Charlotte started an education as STOTT Pilates Instructor in 2006 at Stockholm Pilates Center under the direction of Carita Lesche where she has been certified in both Levels 1 and 2 in Matwork and Pilates machines Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barrels and ISP (Injury and Special Population cours). Charlotte has since been teaching Pilates at several fitness and health centers as well as artistic schools. Since 2012 Charlotte has her own training studio in premises at Danscompagniet in the district of Kungsholmen in central Stockholm. See Mother Earth Pilates.
